FLY FISHERMAN

I’ve had the pleasure of profiling some of the most riveting sportsmen and sportswomen from around the globe for Fly Fisherman, the largest fly angling publication in North America. The “Rising Tides” column carried me to the Bahamas, Oregon, Idaho, the Seychelles and Montana. My subjects and I discussed road trips and love stories, running around the Florida Keys in the wild ‘70s and exploring the Indian Ocean in rickety schooners, climate change, and the American sugar cartel. Samples include:

  • A Spiritual Guide with sporting legend Flip Pallot here.

  • GTs & Giant Tortoise with Keith Rose-Innes here.

  • Conservationist of the Year here.

  • Trout Bum Love here.

SPORTING TRAVEL & NATURAL RESOURCES POLICY

From trying to land an Atlantic salmon in rivers fished by kings, to hanging out with sporting artists on a Bahamian isle, to chasing tarpon in Cuba’s time-capsule marine wilderness, these assignments have carried me to some of the most divine corners of our planet’s Great Outdoors. I’ve also covered stream access law debates in Montana, conservation nonprofit practices, and other hot topics that impact fisheries, public lands, and community rights to resources.

Samples include:

  • Beyond Braveheart, here.

  • Hunting Sea Monsters here.

THE AMERICAN WEST

Assignments for Cowboys & IndiansBig Sky Journal and other publications carried me deeper into my back yard. I’ve profiled American businessmen, country music superstars, leading artists, and other big personalities of the American West. View samples:
